When we think of a ‘mosaic’ in relation to communication, we think of its complexity and how dynamic communication is. There are a variety of pieces such as family involvement and individual differences that contribute to the overall picture of the client.
At Mosaic Speech Therapy, we are inclusive of many individual differences such as cultural background, age, and communication needs. We work with the client and their family to develop goals that support building their sense of belonging within their community. Various pieces come together to form one beautiful and unique mosaic.
Taking a collaborative approach with caretakers and other involved professionals allows us to provide a more effective method of treating speech, language and communication disorders.
Gathering and reviewing client-provided reports to gain a better understanding of the client’s strengths.
Providing engaging and age-appropriate therapy for the client in a playful and relaxed environment.
Therapists incorporate the latest scientific research in combination with clinical expertise to ensure optimal client services.
We believe that incorporating movement is crucial to our client’s communication growth. Movement has been shown to help individuals reach an optimal state for learning (e.g., calm and attentive). Movement also reinforces the brain’s neural connections to help with retaining information. Movement increases engagement, enhances learning, and keeps therapy fun.
Music can help with learning language at any age. Music can be motivating, familiar, calming, and stimulate a variety of our senses. Music gives therapists an opportunity to highlight certain targets by using visual cues (hand motions/gestures) and repetition in a fun way.
We take the time to get to know our client’s culture and how it relates to their communication with others. It is essential to understand the different languages that our clients are exposed to and/or speak. It is also important to know how their language is similar and different to English. This helps us determine whether the client has a language delay or if it is a language difference.
