FAQ's

frequently asked questions

How long do speech therapy sessions last?
The frequency and length of the treatment sessions will depend on the specific needs of the client and the family. There will always be time at the end of the session to go over home practice, discuss next steps, and answer any questions.
Where do the sessions take place?
Sessions will ideally take place in our clinic located in Central Edmonton. Virtual appointments can also be discussed. If preferred, and on a case-by case basis, sessions can take place in the client’s home (extra charges will occur).
What is the cancellation policy?
  • There is a 24 hour notice required for cancellation. If the client does not show or less than 24 hours notice is given, the full session fee will be charged. If 3 consecutive sessions are missed or canceled, the SLP reserves the right to discharge the child from their caseload.
  • If the client arrives late, the session duration will be adjusted accordingly and end at the original time in order for the next client to be seen on time. The full fee will be charged.
Do you direct bill?
At this time, we do not provide direct billing. We do provide you with the required paperwork to submit to your insurance provider to obtain reimbursement. Most insurance providers and employer benefits plans have coverage for speech pathology services but please speak with your insurance provider directly.
What forms of payment are accepted?
E-transfers, cash, debit card and credit card payments will be accepted.
COVID-19 Precautions

We follow all of the guidelines outlined by the Alberta Government. The regulating body for SLPs, Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA), releases a guideline titled Providing Services During a Pandemic, which identifies the required safety measures to be taken by all speech- language pathologists. Virtual teletherapy services are available for those who would prefer this option.

Is speech therapy tax-deductible?
  • Private speech therapy is tax deductible as a medical expense; however, a medical referral is required. Keep your treatment invoices and receipts as evidence of your payment. It is best to consult your tax advisor for more information.
  • Your child or family member may qualify for the Disability tax credit if they have a persistent communication or speech sound disorder that impacts their functioning in daily life. To apply for this credit, you need to obtain a T2201 form from a taxation office and discuss your child’s or family member’s needs with your child’s pediatrician or family member’s doctor.
